PLANT CATEGORY IN THE OLIVES NURSERY
Taking into consideration the European norm, there are four categories of materials
for the olive reproduction: initial, basic, certified and standard or CAC (Agrarian
Community Norms)
Viveros Vidnacom will currently provide the last three categories:
1. Materials of basic multiplication
It is sold with a white label.
The multiplication materials that comply with the following conditions:
a. That they were produced on the manufacturer's responsibility, by means
of generally accepted methods, in order to preserve the variety identity -
the clone in this case - as well as for prevention of diseases and that
directly result from the initial multiplication materials by vegetative means.
b. To be meant to produce certified multiplication materials.
c. To comply with the conditions stipulated in the Royal Decree 929/1995, for
the materials of base multiplication and that there have been performed official
certifications.
2. Certified materials of multiplication
It is sold with a blue label.
The multiplication materials that comply with the following conditions:
a. It directly derives from the materials of basic multiplication or from the
initial multiplication materials.
b. That they are meant to produce plants or plant parts that serve to olives
production.
c. To comply with the conditions stipulated in the Royal Decree 929/1995, for
the certified materials of multiplication and that there have been performed
official certifications.
3. Standard materials of multiplication
It is sold with a yellow label.
The multiplication materials that comply with the following conditions:
a. To have identity and purity of the variety.
b. That they are meant to produce plants or plant parts that serve to olives
production.
c. To comply with the conditions stipulated in the Royal Decree 929/1995, for
the certified materials of multiplication and that there have been performed
official certifications.
The production and trading of the plants of the olives nursery is regulated
in the States Members of the European Union by the Directive 2002/11/EC of the
COUNCIL on February 14, 2002 which modifies the Directive 68/193/EEC that refers
to the trading of the materials of vine vegetative multiplication and voids
the Directive 74/649/EEC.
In Spain, the European Directive will apply by means of the Royal Decree 929
on June 9, 1995, by which there will be approved the Technical Regulation of
control and certification of fruit nursery plants, which have been amended three
times so far.
The Spanish Office of the Vegetal Varieties, which belongs to the Department
of Agriculture, Fishing and Foods coordinates the actions of control and certification
of the plants and seed produced in Spain. The authority in agriculture are transferred
to various autonomous communities. In Navarra, the Office for Vegetables Production
of the Department of Agriculture, Cattle raising and Foods of the Navarra Government
performs actions of control and certification relevant as they are shown in
the Royal Decree 208/2003 in order to assure the soil identity and lack of maladies
and pests, with the purpose of confirm the quality of our products.
